Child benefit

I don't know how to ask this question in such a way as to make it google-able!

Dh and I have 3 children altogether - one each from previous relationships and 1 together. In terms of benefits payment, we will not be considered the 'resident parent' for either of the older ones from September. Does that mean the youngest child's child benefit payment goes up to the higher payment?

If the youngest child is the only one you are getting child benefit for then you will get the higher rate.

whoever makes the claim for that particular child gets the payment.

ah right I understand now. Yes if its only 1 child you are claiming for then you get the higher 1st child payment
