I couldn't find an appropriate forum for this but it's to do with money so...

Ok so I have been having some personal issues and am in a bit of a daze/absent minded headspace. I went to a local Tesco metro late this evening and went I got to the self-checkout to pay, I found that I had forgotten my purse so I told a member of staff and left.

However, when I got home I realised that I still had three of the items that I had picked up - and I haven't paid for them obviously. The total value of the items is less than £5 but I am feeling so embarrassed and ashamed.

I'm not sure what to do now - do I go back and explain what happened and try to give the items back/pay for them? I'm not sure I can show my face again there tbh. Maybe I could pay over bank transfer if I phone Head Office? What if they think I'm a shoplifter?

Be fine op. Even if the staff did notice which they probably didn’t, it’s not a high enough value for them to bother with. We’ve all been there don’t worry

I did similar once the first time I used scan and shop. Had set it all up at home, did my shopping, went to the till and scanned the qr code, briefly glanced at my phone which said “all done”, picked up my shopping and walked off.

I only realised next time I did a scan and shop that you have to actually pay once the shopping has been scanned through the till. I kind of assumed I’d set it up with my bank card details so if just paid automatically Blush It was only about £7 worth of shopping but I felt awful!

When my son was a toddler he picked up a really ugly soft toy type Christmas decoration in John Lewis. He then fell asleep and I couldn't see it so thought it had fallen out of the pushchair. Got back to the car and he was sat on it.

I get it out every Christmas and remind the child he is a shop lifter.

Omg thank you so much everyone, your stories have really made me giggle! I phoned Head Office as I won't be able to get into store again until Monday. I explained the situation and asked them to phone the shop to let them know that I would be back to pay. They basically laughed and me and told me not to worry and to just go in on Monday and pay. I still fear a policeman coming knocking at my door though haha!

I've done it before.
In Debenhams I put a little sparky handbag on my arm to get something else off the same hook. Must have forgotten to put it back as when I got back to work half an hour later I was putting my bags down and there it was in my arm. I'd walked around the shop paid for my stuff and walked right through town with it.
I gave it to my Nan Smile

My old mum had MH issues and would often wheel a trolley full home. We always kept it - too embarrassed to go back - we were only kids.
