Universal Credit And Other Benefits Payments

My dh and I have recently started claiming Universal Credit and due to mental health issues, he also receives a fortnightly ESA payment and I receive Carers Allowance paid on a four weekly basis, neither of us has any income from paid employment. Can anyone please tell me what happens to Universal Credit when you have a month where, due to the number of weeks in the month, you receive an extra benefit payment? Does the Universal Credit payment for that month go down as your benefits income has increased for that period? When I look online it only mentions increases in income from employment for people who are paid weekly/four weekly which result in a lower Universal Credit payment that month, I can't find anything relating to people whose income from benefits increases. Any advice gratefully received, thanks

New style ( contributions based) ESA that your dh receives and carers allowance are both averaged out at a monthly rate so the amount deducted will always stay the same. carers allowance averages out to £291.41 that is deducted. So they take weekly carers allowance amount x 52 then divided by 12 as there are 12 monthly UC assessment periods in the year. The ESA amount will depend which group he is in, if support group it's averaged at about £492 per month.

Both those benefits ( ESA and carers allowance) are deducted pound for pound from UC but on your Uc statement you should have a LCWRA element if your dh is in the support group of ESA and a carers element as well as your standard couples element and rent element if you rent.

@Babyroobs thank you so much for your detailed reply. I had hoped that this was the case and that I would not get either a lower amount of UC or none at all during the months when I receive the "extra" benefits payments. Thanks once again for taking the trouble to reply and putting my mind at rest.
