Private pension?

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have had a quick google but it's all so confusing! Just wondered if anyone has a private pension or advice as to what I should be looking for. I'm in my 40's and I can't believe I'm only just considering this now.

But it is good that you are starting now. Someone will be along with more comprehensive advice about SIPPs etc but I have, in addition to my workplace pension, been contributing extra through PensionBee for the last few years. Very straightforward, a decent selection of funds and always responsive to queries. Some of the funds are a bit expensive but worth a gander. Good analytical tools too.

If you do go with PensionBee and are a higher rate taxpayer, you will need to claim the extra tax relief back in your tax return!

I pay X amount into my private pension & my employer puts Y amount of FREE money into it Grin
Compound interest over many years
The only problem is that you can't have access to the money until you breach a certain age

Do you work ?

Reach, not breach

Sorry just realised I left our key details!

I am self employed but not a high earner.

The govt's Money Advice Service has a page specifically dedicated to pensions for the self-employed. A good place to start www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk

You can also log onto www.gov.uk & receive a state pension forecast of how much you should receive & the approx date. Look under state pension
This is a good place to start, to try to work out howuch to save in a private pension
