Do you think I'll be eligible for a mortgage?

Backstory - I racked up a lot of debt in my teens, ruined my credit score and got 3 defaults. I'm now in a good job, I'm climbing the ladder and earning a decent amount. I've repaid all the outstanding debts in full and haven't missed a payment in over 3 years. I now have £1,300 spare after all bills are paid each month.

I've been with DP for four years and we've saved £40k for our deposit and his credit score is 999 - the best it can be.

Considering my history, would we be eligible for a joint mortgage?

Your defaults will drop off your credit record 6 years after they were issued- having these no longer visible will be a massive help. Best to have a look at your report yourself and have a chat with a broker about your options.

3 years is still a while off which is my concern... in the process of trying to find a good broker.

It's just these defaults that are affecting our chance Sad

I got a joint mortgage last year with 40% deposit and a two year old default which I’d only just paid off. But probably best to use a broker. Some free ones are really good. I used Trussel but heard L&c are good too.

Hi OP, I'm in a similar position as I had a default appear a few months ago that I was unaware of and we have numerous complications due to living overseas and self employment. Someone on here recommended contacting a broker called Mortgage Thoughts and they have been great. We aren't there yet due to lockdown and banks wanting higher deposits but they have kept in contact and are confident we will be sorted this year. Give them a call they'll be really honest with you.
