Universal Credit Claim issues

hey all,

Ok so up until now i haven't lived with my partner,
And as of the 7th i got notice off the NHS i had been placed onto this vulnerable list. So we discussed options and on the 9th he moved in.

We started a claim for UC on the 10th, but within the last week housing informed me that the start claim date they received was the 21st of April :S

I called up UC to query it incase there is something i missed (As UC is quite confusing anyway) and they said it was started on the 21st but completed on the 10th.

so they got the latter right but i was extremely confused how we started a claim when my partner wasn't even in the building, infact it was Lockdown and i hadn't seen him for 4 weeks! Unfortunatley she had no idea as the information she could see was apparently quite basic on her screen.

So she has sent it to a case manager and i will be called by Monday for them to hopefully make a desicion.

As you can imagine i'm quite worried, i cant understand how a claim was started for one? The change in date obviously adds 3 more weeks to the waiting period making me in debt. And i completed my Tax Credits declaration on the 29th, so it now looks like i lied when at the time of doing it i was accurate. And of course i was receiving both benefits and tax credit payments while he wasn't here which now look like over payments also.

has anyone else had something like this happen? and was it resolved? I am going to b chewing over this all weekend :(

If you definitely didn't start a claim in April then the only thing I can think of is that someone has got hold of your details and it is a scam or Uc have made a mistake.

So you claimed UC on 10th May and submitted it and all verified?

You were previously receiving Housing benefit? You will be entitled to two weeks run on at full rate from date of UC stop notice

Your UC assessment period is 10th May til 9th May and UC will be paid on 15th June.

Unless your partner had a previous UC claim and this is where the 21st comes from and you are being added onto it?

Yes he did have a previous claim! The lady i spoke to never mentioned that could be why

So his previous assessment period was 21st April - 20th May. As the change occurred within that assessment period ie he moved in which you then you will be included in that claim and payment received for all of you 27th May.

You should still receive full HB for two weeks post move in but the stop notice will go back to 21st April.

Seems a bit unfair but you will get your UC sooner.

27th was his old playdate, so this really does make sense thank you

You’re welcome. Your case manager will sort this out for you easily. It’s really basic UC stuff. Problem is a lot of the phone staff are untrained and just handing off work.

I’d pop a note into both your journals.
