Hi all,in tax year 2018/19 i had to make a payment on account. I chopped it down a little as i was expecting less uncoded taxable income in 2019/20. Anyway im just playing with the 2019/20 SA and have not submitted it but brought it to the point where it gives my tax bill. It hasnt auto deducted the payment on account. Does this happen some time after ive submitted my SA and its been processed? Tnx

Yes - and I'm pretty sure that on one of those last pages it says that this amount does not take into account payments already made?

Yes - it's bloody annoying, but they never deduct payments on account. It probably does say that it doesn't, but it also very clearly states the amount "to be paid by 31st January 2021", which is obviously wrong!

HMRC's systems are strange beasts...

It will all get caught up after you've submitted the return. Your online account should then show the right figures due. It's just the calculation report that's misleading.

If 80% of your tax has been deducted through a tax code, then you don't make payments on account. HMRC are trying to move away from them, so by default, they collect through your tax code now.

I'd need more info to help further.
I am a chartered accountant, so thought i might be of help here...
