Electric only

Anyone on electricity only? We have lived in a 3 bed house with elec only for 5 years. Every year our bills seem to get higher and higher. I do everything to keep the bill down but we are now up to £247 per month. I don't use the water heater unless we need it, the heating is used very sparingly, yet every year it gets bigger. What is your bill like?

My sisters are on electric only and it is high like yours in comparison when I have a 2 bed flat and only pay £70 for gas and electric together and it's always in credit. They also live in a 2 bed house and pay double. It's shocking.

Electric only

That is a huge amount. I spend £50-£70ish a month

On your bill look for
Standing charge per day or month
Day price per KW
Night price per KW

Use a comparison site to swap to a cheaper supplier

cooking on electric hob must add to it. Can you use a slow cooker more? It does seem high though.

I've called octopus energy and they e switched is to a flat rate which is taking it down to £220, but that still seems so high. I'm thinking of buying a power usage monitor incase an appliance is screwing us over. I'm really vigilant about keeping lights off and stuff.

I'm electric only. I don't use the storage heaters, it's far cheaper using oil filled radiators. I'm with bulb, 3 adults in a 2 bed bungalow and high user of electric in the day. I average £125 a month but cold winters it's more like £160 a month.

We have an electric water heating system instead of storage heaters. Which I know is expensive to run.

Are you sending your supplier regular meter readings ? At least once or twice a month

If you want more accurate price, send them weekly

Or get a smart meter installed
