I posted this in the Coronavirus topic but figured some people might have it hidden so posting here too.

It's now live:

It tells you if you're eligible and when you can claim

Thanks for posting this @ScarfLadysBag

I saw this today! I'm really impressed how generous our government have been.

ScarfLadysBag · 04/05/2020 21:13

I just learned too that anyone in Scotland who is ineligible because they started their business after April 2019 can apply for a hardship grant from their local council:

findbusinesssupport.gov.scot/service/coronavirus/newly-self-employed-hardship-fund

It requires proof of trading, etc. but is a £2,000 grant.

Well its saying DH is not eligible. I don't see why. His tax returns have all been filed for the relevant years, didn't earn over £50,000 any of the years and has not done any work for 6 weeks.

We are hoping that it's wrong although not holding our breath! He is not entitled to anything else because I started getting my state pension in April.

If it is correct I am not impressed. I can't see why he is not entitled but if that is the case then it seems many others won't be either

ScarfLadysBag · 05/05/2020 20:11

Ugh, that's not good. He's registered self-employed as a sole trader? I've seen a few people have got that message when they believe they should be eligible so perhaps there's a glitch or something.

This was the criteria they published previously:

To apply, you must be a self-employed individual or a member of a partnership and:

traded in the tax year 2019-20 and intend to continue trading in 2020-21

have trading profits of less than £50,000 a year

earn the majority of your income (ie 50% or more) through self-employment

have filed a tax return for the 2018-19 tax year. Anyone who missed the 31 January deadline has four weeks from 26 March to file their 2018-19 return and benefit from the scheme.

Yes he is a sole trader. He fits all the criteria so am hoping it is a glitch. I really can't see why he would not get it.

We will wait and see if we hear anything from HMRC. He had the original email saying he should be entitled to it.

DH hasn't had any work as he is a plumber/heating engineer. Obviously people don't want him in their houses and he (and I) don't really want him there either. He is diabetic and had a stroke a few years ago

I haven't been too worried about money as I really thought he would get the payment. We have been careful though. If he is not going to get it he will have to start looking for work

userxx · 05/05/2020 20:39

@lynsey91 Is he receiving a pension?

lynsey91 · 06/05/2020 08:22

@userxx no he is not old enough to be getting his pension as he is younger than me

Student58 · 06/05/2020 08:48

There were quite a few flitches with the furlough system when launched and particularly lots of problems with the claim calculator so I wouldn't worry too much.

userxx · 06/05/2020 08:50

Ok, it's just one of my clients isn't eligible because of pension. Another client was showing as ineligible, I know that's incorrect so I filled out the enquiry form to hmrc, no idea how long it will take to get an answer.

lynsey91 · 06/05/2020 11:06

He is going to try again and if it still says ineligible he will query it. He definitely meets all the criteria so I don't see why he won't get it

Vegena · 07/05/2020 10:39

Do you think SE will extend to June?

userxx · 07/05/2020 20:45

@Vegena No.
