Like many I'm sorting out paper work etc and have found household bills going back years! I'm trying to streamline EVERYTHING and finally put my house in tip-top order... well that's my plan! (Still have the cutlery drawer to clear out Hmm
Any tips on what to keep and for how long and even how you store/file things would be much appreciated.
I do have a house file but it's bursting!... and also a concertina file with 6 sections
Thanks in advance

I have opted for electronic bills for gas/electric/water/council tax/tv licence/phone etc etc so I don't keep any but they are available online if I need them.

May I ask what you are keeping the bills for?

I've just inherited this trait from my parents I think... but I do like to have paper copies.
My water bill, Council Tax etc are still paper and arrive in the post... plus there are items like Payslips, P60, MOT Certificate, Car Insurance, Passports, Birth Certificates etc

You don't need to keep any of those, except passports and birth certificates etc because they are legal documents.

Do you still get a paper payslip? Haven't had one of those for years either. Again, I just keep electronic ones. And you certainly only need to keep your last P60, not every one you've ever had.

Thanks...

Yes, I still get a paper payslip and P60

Gas and electric company allows me to print out copies when I need them for I'd purposes so I don't keep those.

Broadband, phone and home insurance is paperless

I keep current year and last year's council tax bill in paper format

I keep annual mortgage statements since I moved here

I keep last year and current year's car insurance in paper format

Payslip is electronic

Child benefit and Tax Credit I can keep this year and last year's in paper
