Just don't know what we're going to do, have no money, none at all.

dh has changed jobs and wont get paid for another 12 days, missed nearly a months wages by changing jobs and now reached overdraft limit.

Bank wont extend overdraft no matter whatm been on the phone to them all day.

Have no cc, no family to borrow money off, we're screwed....shit...sshit...sshit

can you get an emergency grant or something from the benefits agency?

kindersurprise · 13/09/2007 15:46

Can your DH's new company advance his some of his pay?

Hurlyburly · 13/09/2007 15:46

Sorry

Is there anything you could do instantly for cash in hand NOW? Late harvesting, cleaning, ebaying, cash-converters, provident loan?

The alternative is borrowing from friends which is not nice.

newlifenewname · 13/09/2007 15:47

crisis loan?
living off what is in back ofcupboard or the junk in your trunk?

junkinmytrunk · 13/09/2007 15:51

food I think we can manage on its stuff like petrol, a couple of bills etc.

everything seems to take so long but when you have no cash at all, none it seems to be forever

I just dont know what I going to do, oh shit i cant cope with this any more

fireflyfairy2 · 13/09/2007 15:51

Sell everything you don't need.
Get them onto Ebay.

List all the foods you have in your fridge/cupboards & freezer & we'll try to help you make a list of meals until dh gets paid.

Is there any way your dh's new company can pay him in advance?

junkinmytrunk · 13/09/2007 15:53

no dh is going to hit the f'in roof, I swear he's going to end up having a nervous breakdown

OP posts:
junkinmytrunk · 13/09/2007 15:54

Bills are no problem. Just phone the company, explain about the job thing and say the bills will be unavoidably late this month, and will be paid on X date. Most companies will be 100% fine, a few will try to tell you you can't, but that's just bluster.

Food you say you are ok for, so that's good.

Petrol - limit travel to essential only - do yu/he live within walking distance of jobs? Or ask for lifts (say car has broken down)

pawn shop? cash converters? they take cheques and hold them for up to a month.

Hurlyburly · 13/09/2007 16:00

Why is DH going to hit the roof? Does he not know? Is there something you need to sit him down to tell him?

junkinmytrunk · 13/09/2007 16:00

I dont have anything to pawn, tried that already my stuff is worth pennies apparently

Dh has to drive to work around 20miles each way, no bus routess or train routes

grouchyoscar · 13/09/2007 16:01

OK...I seems awful atm but it won't be for long.

Contact your creditors and let them know the situation, rearrange payments. Most places don't mind late payments etc, they just want to know what's going on

Things will get better

HTH

mytwopenceworth · 13/09/2007 16:01

Then try cash converters (or similar company). You write them a post-dated cheque, they give you cash (minus their charge) and they bank your cheque later - up to a month later.

charliecat · 13/09/2007 16:03

Leave the bills for 12 days, they will wait, whatever money you do have use for food, electric gas and petrol.

vetran.

junkinmytrunk · 13/09/2007 16:03

dh is just stressed enough as it is.

We are normally very good with money, only sspend what we have but thiss job change has totally buggered it all up

OP posts:
Peachy · 13/09/2007 16:03

You're not screwed, no family need ever go without food

Bills can wait 12 paltry days.

Petrol is ahrder, but food in an emergency (and I know you can cover it, posting for future reference)- the Salvation Army used to provide food boxes to Mums / dads etc who ran out of money unexpectedly just for the asking- one Mum for example lost her purse with benefits in.

junkinmytrunk · 13/09/2007 16:07

has anyone used cash converters post dated chq thing, how easy is it

OP posts:
mytwopenceworth · 13/09/2007 16:12

cash converters

REALLY only for emergencies, but sounds like this is one.

mytwopenceworth · 13/09/2007 16:12

Oh, look at salary advance, not cheque cashing!

Lolly68 · 13/09/2007 16:44

or the money shop. If you have a cheque book and cheque guarantee card they will cash you money until pay day. You can also renew every month if you need to.

ConfusedOhConfused · 13/09/2007 19:11

Cancel down all direct debits, don't worry about any bills ring all the companies and explain the situation.

I used to be a debt collector (a nice one before you judge, you have to persuade people to give you money) if you ring any company you owe money to and explain, tell them when DH is going to be paid and what you can pay and when they will be more understanding than you think.

As long as the company knows when the money will be coming in to them they can wait.

What bills do you have payments due on?

ConfusedOhConfused · 13/09/2007 19:11

Sorry that should have said any direct debits you think your bank will not honour, so any that are due in the next 12 days.

laura032004 · 13/09/2007 19:27

Can you do a carboot sale on Sunday? We usually get about £50-£100 just on kids stuff.

Judy1234 · 13/09/2007 19:29

Good advice below. Also can you find any evening work you can start right away such as in a pub? Have you neighbours you could clean the houses for, do some odd jobs they need doing, babysit for, mow their lawns?

Peachy · 13/09/2007 19:31

Do make sure that you cancel any dd's- the fees for not being able to pay them can be astounding and would tip you over potentially next month (that being how things tend to get out of hand...)
