UC question? New to this, help!

So me and DH have just submitted a UC claim as he is self employed and unable to work due to the Coronavirus.
We have 3 dc I have a decent wage not fantastic but I think we will get a little bit of help from UC .
My question Is about my earnings? Do I have to tell them what I have earned every month or do they automatically get this info from HMRC? I'd hate to assume they know and it not go through because I have not done something correctly?

Thanks

Surely there is a question about your income on the form?

Tinyhumansurvivalist · 08/04/2020 06:50

They ask for your annual income and then it is adjusted each month based on info submitted to the hmrc by your employer.

The cap is 20k so if you earn that or more I'm afraid you won't get anything especially as currently you'll have no childcare costs.

It really is a shit system.

Yes they asked what I earned last month, but I'll get paid again before the claim Is reviewed at the beginning of may. My wage can vary from month to month depending on overtime, shift allowance, bonus etc

On the government website it says that only self-employed people need to report earnings each month.
Although there is a page you can read about 'surplus income' that applies to all.
In any case, there is a Journal section in your online account where you can ask questions, write comments and give information. It's essential your communication area where DWP staff can share info with you and vice versa.

Your wages will be reported directly to Uc through HMRC. You don't need to do anything. If wages are variable then your UC will adjust accordingly. If your self employed dh starts back to work they will ask him to report earnings a few days before the end of your assessment period.

Just to clarify, someone above has posted that the cap is £20k. This is completely inaccurate, there are lots of things that affect your entitlent such as number of children, rent, childcare costs etc. My household income is slightly over £30k with no childcare costs but we are still eligible for UC top up.

UC will get Details of your earnings Paye information from HMRC. You will be able to see a breakdown with the details on a payment statement and let them know if it is wrong.
