Is it worth contacting CMS?

DD hasn't met her father but we mutually arranged that he'd pay £150 a month (he's paid for the past 2 years).

He's messaged this morning saying he's lost his job and won't be able to pay. He's self employed so is hoping to claim 80% from the government (supposedly this won't be until June)

Is it worth me putting in a claim? He said it isn't worth him signing onto jobseekers so I'm assuming he intends to go back to the job. From the information I had when we was together, he earned around £600pw, so I think he was getting off fairly lightly with the £150. But he will most likely not be happy if I put a claim in, and may be able to lie about his earning as he's self employed?

If he isn't earning on paper I don't think it's worth rocking the boat to put in the claim.

He's correct that the SE support won't arrive until June, can assure you on that.

Thank you, that's what I though, it may not be worth the time. Just hopefully he picks it back up when things go back to normal!

Its not worth putting in a claim if you are happy to continue with the arrangement you have when his income starts again.

While he is currently earning nothing cms will award you nothing or very very little.

@Dannny9 If, when it picks up, he doesn't then you put in the claim Grin
Wouldn't rock the boat for now though.

Some of them tend to get offended if you try to bring CMS in. I'd know, unfortunately...

Yes I think he wouldn't be too happy either but he's also lied a lot before to try and get out of paying so hopefully he isn't using this one as another excuse.

I'll hold out until June and see if he gets in contact, thank you!

If he is hoping to claim 80% furlough though, he would have had to declare actual income surely? So therefore putting in a claim when he goes back to work probably still be worth it.

Imagine earning £600 and only giving £35 to help feed and clothed and house your child. What a prince!

Dannny9 · 07/04/2020 07:43

@CalleighDoodle I had thought that tbh but I'm sure he was self employed through his dad so I'm concerned he will have a way to change earnings. I'm not sure how the 80% works though, would this mean that he would of had to declare all earnings?

Yes it's not ideal, even worse that he prance around saying how excellent he's been for paying it for nearly 3 years as if he shouldn't be whilst buying various sports cars in the meantime 🙄 but anyhow. Maybe it would be worth putting a claim in after all of this I just don't want to risk getting nothing!
