Mumtothree03 · 19/03/2020 20:49

Hi could anyone advise me on getting help towards topping up my electric meter? My heating isn’t working and the housing have given me electric fans that are using far more electric than I normally do. I’m currently on my emergency credit and don’t get paid till next week. My whole house is electric and I have young children

Phone your supplier. They should be able to help. I'm with Boost and they've lent me almost a months worth of energy at the moment. They were really helpful when I called.

Frequency · 19/03/2020 20:52

Go to your local council in the morning. They'll provide you with a top up voucher but will make a referral to children's services. It's not serious, they won't come out and visit you, it's just to monitor how often you use the service so they can offer extra support if needed. They'll also advise on the heating situation.

I spoke with someone from the housing today and he basically told me there’s nothing they can do.

Can you borrow some money from family?

Frequency · 19/03/2020 20:58

It's not the housing dept of your council who will give you the energy voucher, it's the children's dept. Ask at reception.

Mumtothree03 · 19/03/2020 20:58

I don’t have a lot of family and the few I have aren’t in a position to help unfortunately. I’m just so worried in case it runs out 😞

Don’t know what you’re problem is! Hope you’re never in a position where you’re struggling.

Children's services will still be working. They're key workers. Give them a call in the morning if you don't want to walk down.

Mumtothree03 · 19/03/2020 21:03

No I’m asking for advice if anyone knows if there’s any support I could get.

Mumtothree03 · 19/03/2020 21:04

Thank you I will give them a call in the morning 🙂

LovingLola, if you haven't got anything nice to say, perhaps don't say it at all! OP if you call your provider they will be able to help, just explain your circumstances, hope this helps x

Hi everyone, just a reminder that we always ask users to remember that not everyone on the internet is who they say they are – and remind folk not to give more to another poster, either financially (in cash or gifts) or emotionally (in time or care and support) than they'd be prepared to lose if things went wrong. We strongly advise against parting with any cash or giving away your personal details, and if you receive a PM which makes you uneasy - report it to us and we’ll take a look.

Sorry to hijack your thread briefly there, OP – we really hope you get it all sorted soon. In the meantime, you might find some useful information on our guide for dealing with financial difficulty.

Thank you all I’m just waiting for someone on chat at bg. I never even thought about getting money off anyone on here I was just looking for advice. 🙂

Call your supplier, they can be surprisingly helpful at times

Absentwomen · 20/03/2020 11:34

OP, why is your heating not working?

As PP have said, your supplier is your friend here. If you have small children they are mandated to ensure you have electricity.

Mumtothree03 · 21/03/2020 01:12

My house is all electric and I’ve got something called an air source heat pump. It’s broken and I’m waiting for the council to fix it but I’m just being passed from pillar to post! I called my supplier and they gave me a code for credit that I have to pay back weekly. Thanks for everyone’s advice I really appreciate it 🙂
