When is the best time to apply for UC?

I will need to move onto UC this year. Still on legacy benefits.

Can any that is on it recommend the best time to apply?

Some say it's better to leave it until you are forced but i would quite like to get it out the way.

Any advice would be great thanks!

P.S. I know there will be a mountain of other threads on this subject but it's hard going through them all looking for specific advice.

Hiya I'm in exactly the same situation as you now and need to move to universal credit soon how did it go when you had to move?

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/12/2022 20:59

Hi Blondes, thank you for the compliment!

This is an old thread so it might be better if you started a new one. But if you are in the same situation as the OP was (non working single parent of 4yo child, claiming IS, CTC and HB) you will need to claim UC when your DC turns 5 (or preferably at least 2 weeks beforehand, as you'll get the 2 week run-on). If you need advice or help with it, contact Citizens Advice Help to Claim:

People on ESA are not being force migrated until 2028 unless claiming Tax Credits
