Uc and panic buying

Hi I'm not sure it's been mentioned but I'm a single mum on UC and I'm struggling to buy extra food incase the shops are on lockdown I just can't afford to buy the extra! Does anyone know if there is help out there to stock up on a few bits? If we had to isolate now the kids would starve Sad

In the strict French and Chinese lockdowns people could still access the shops. The supermarket supply chains are not expected to fail.

You will still be able to buy food. In the event of a lock down the police and army will be guarding supermarkets.

Why would you get help for something the government is begging us not to do?

Are you on fb? My local sites have people who will fetch shopping, share what's available where etc. There's local charities who will deliver care packs to people like you.

The shops won't go on lockdown OP but I understand why you're worried.

Why would you get help for something the government is begging us not to do?

Most people are seeing a spike in their food bill because of lack of stock. For example someone who normally buys Lidl nappies might be forced to buy pampers. Extend this to every product you buy and you end up with a massive bill.

The government doesn't want people to panic buy but if you don't buy a tin of formula when you see it, your baby might starve. When you're a lone parent the buck often stops with you.

OP is not being unreasonable wondering about financial help. In the US Trump sent every adult $1000 to keep the economy and families going. The government is apparently considering it too but no plans yet

OP talks about being EXTRA, not that she can't buy her normal shop because it's more expensive. Buying a tin of formula wouldn't be extra.

Those who need help most are those who are losing their job/not getting paid, especially when they are still liable to pay childcare for instance.
