Hi all - sorry bit of a long one

Hope I've posted in the right place but really need some advice on what I should expect from a warranty for a fridge freezer.

Bought f/f November last year and it has a 1 year warranty. Well the fridge part started dying earlier this week and has finally given in tonight and the freezer part is also on its way out. I called the hotpoint customer service people earlier this week and they said that the earliest date we could get an engineer was 17th Sept, not too happy but said OK as the fridge wasn't too bad.

Called them again on Friday to see if I could get an earlier appointment - no can do.

I'm going to call them again in the morning but what I want to know is is it reasonable to wait for 2 1/2 weeks to for an engineer (and no guarentee that he'll be able to fix it) and what are my rights - can I demand a replacement or them to pay for a rented fridge freezer (if you are still able to rent one)

If you;ve lasted this long thank you!

As far as i know you can get a replacement if they can't fix it.
My warranty with whirlpool had run out when my condensor dryer broke but i got a new one as it was deemed an unsuitable amount of time to completely break down.
I think i wiaited a couple of weeks though for an engineer however i understand what you mean r/e the fridge as you cannot manage without for two weeks. What have customer services said ?

They've said that that is the earliest they can do. When I called on Friday I asked that I be put on an emergency waiting list, but when DH called on Sat am they offered to put us on an emergency waiting list!

I suppose we'll just have to muddle through

Quint - Suggest you look at the web-site I link to here www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/after_you_buy/know-your-rights/electrical/. If you can't find what you are looking for maybe give them a ring. They were very good when I had a complaint once and I got all my money back!

where did you buy your fridge freezer from?

i had a ff that broke twice within a year of buying it

i also had to wait weeks for them to come out and look at it, and then when they finally came out they didnt have the right part to fix it so they wanted to wait another two weeks

i got in touch with the consumer advice people who were quite good.

legally they should offer to lend you a replacement product whilst you wait for yours to be fixed, and you are within your rights to ask for a replacement. but they dont like giving you one, i had to hastle and moan loads until i got one.

i really complined about the wait etc, laid it on thick that i have 3 young children and NEED a f/f it is an essential to everyday life etc.

like i said they did eventually give in and give me a new one, but you have to perservere and dont let them soft talk you, good luck.

thank you - will look at that website and lay it on thick about needing a replacement - actually there's no need to, I do need one!
