Getting a mortgage as a supply teacher - help/advice!

Hello

We are looking at buying our first house and are wondering about the mortgage. Our mortgage broker says we will have to wait until DH gets a permanent job. He's a supply teacher and gets 5 days a week work regularly and doesn't really want to get a permanent teaching job tied to one school as he's studying to change careers.

Just looking for any advice or help - anyone else out there a supply teacher manage to get a mortgage? For reference I'm on mat leave but returning to work full time and on a permanent contract.

Thanks for any help!

I assume as a supply teacher he has no contract outlining fixed hours, there in lies the problem. With no contract the mortgage company have no evidence of secure employment so you either get a mortgage based on only your income or you follow the broker's advice.

Whilst others can share their own experiences, no two circumstances are ever identical so your broker is the best place to inform based on their trained expertise.

I did but it waseems 13 years ago. It was with the Halifax. They do tend to like teachers as a profession, it's seen as a steady job.

Look at the Teachers Building Society.
