Child benefit

Hope I’m posting in the right area. I only discovered recently that claiming child benefit can give me NI credits, (which will obviously be useful in retirement).
I’m a SAHM and work a bit from home, but not enough to pass the NI threshold.
The CB goes into an account I hold jointly with my husband, and I’m fairly sure it was in my name, but it was a long time ago. Can anyone advise me how to check whether the CB is in my name or my husband’s?

You can check your NI contributions on the HMRC website or app. You'll just need to set up a Gateway account which is really easy.

I didn't realise when I had my first dc that child benefit counted towards NI and stupidly let my controlling ex put it in his name so I've got 2 years of contributions missing 🤦🏼‍♀️

They do quite regularly send letters out for various reasons. I am surprised you haven't had one. CB always used to paid in mothers name, but I am note sure whether that is still true. Worrying you have never had any correspondence about it. You need to ring the Child Benefit Office, have your NI number ready.

Who gets the letters to infomr you when it increases?

I’ll give them a ring. I don’t remember receiving any letters at all, but neither has my husband.
Thanks for your help.

You can register and check your NI record online.
