Can any one work out how much u/c we would be entitled to
We have just put in a claim all forms filled in and interviews done
Kept getting offered an advance but nobody said how much they would loan us however we came home logged into our u/c claim checked out the advance section was gob smacked that they estimated us as our first payment as 797.69 wow this much
We are a couple both over 25
We live in a 2 bed council house
My partner works 30 hours per week at 10.69 per hour
I do not work am unemployed
We have no children
Can any one calculate what we should get
I do not trust what the department of work and punishments say

Try googling entitled to, you put all your circumstances and income in and it let's you know.

If you need to take an advance, try to only take what you need to get you by rather than the full amount as the repayments can be pretty hefty and take a chunk out of your monthly payments. I did the switch and borrowed my bill money from my mum rather than take an advance, I was lucky enough to be able to do this though.

I tried the benefit calculator on two sites both recommended by gov UK
One said 5.20 a week
The other said zero

No one can calculate without knowing your rent and other stuff. You could try citizens advice in your area. Tell them you have already done a calculation yourself. Also ask UC on the journal how they are working it out.

SRC1959 · 22/02/2020 10:19

Good answer will do that now

Oh wow! You only know when you get your statement then I suppose, it's awful not knowing eh? Did they definitely put your partner on the claim? That's the only thing I can think of, maybe he's been left off it.

The advance would be your Uc entitlement before deductions- £498.89 for a couple standard allowance plus housing. Then the wages would be deducted at 63% from the UC amount

What is your weekly rent and do you have spare bedrooms? What net pay does your partner come out with ?

SRC1959 · 22/02/2020 10:52

Thanks babyroobs
Weekly rent is 88.69
Yes we have a spare room
Partners net pay this month 1130.38

I make it only £170 that is if they gave you full rent element which I don't think they will so would likely to be less than this. This is unless you have an illness that prevents you from working or something or get a disability benefit ??

Babyroobs · 22/02/2020 14:01

I've worked this out by adding £498 ( couples element ) to the very maximum rent element £384, though likely less than this as you'll be hit by bedroom tax if council rented. So total Uc is maximum of £882. Then wages of £1130.38 X 0.63 = £711.90.
£882 - £711.90 = £170.10 UC per month payable ( but likely less due to bedroom tax).
