Right to Buy Scheme

Would I be shooting myself in the foot if I wanted to have my garden done (patio etc) but have plans to buy my housing association home in the future?

In other words, would I just be adding to the market value before I even buy it? I'm not sure how/when they base the market value of the house. Or if they take into consideration any home improvements that have been done by the tenant who is actually buying the property.

My garden is shite and I'm desperate to have it done for the summer, so I don't want to wait years and years Sad

Once you have started the Right To Buy proceedings a valuation will be carried out. I doubt you’d be shooting yourself in the foot by adding a patio.

Wait until you've had your valuation before doing any improvements as they may add to the value and you end up paying more for your property.

Any improvements you make are deducted from the property value.
