Match betting question

Looking into giving match betting a go (hubby very clued in re sports & racing and we're both very disciplined and fully aware of gambling risks etc...)

My question is - I'm not keen on using my debit or credit card when setting up online accounts - is there a way around this??

Reason being, we hope to move mortgage providers soon so I'm expecting that we'll be put through a credit check and obviously betting sites will be massive red flags.

Can we set up accounts and physically pay cash into them at an actual bookies shop? Or use prepaid debit/credit cards? Or another form of payment which doesn't leave a paper trail for the bank??

TIA

Why not ask at a William Hill shop? They have a significant online presence. Or Ladbrokes. Or Coral.

I imagine that you’d be asked to link your online betting account to your debit card for KYC purposes. In other words, for due diligence purposes in case the account is used to launder money.

Open an online banking account such as Monzo or Starling ?

Open a new account with a new bank and keep it exclusively for matched betting. Don't use a credit card. You will get charged fees for money transfer and anyway some new legislation is now or soon coming in which prohibits bookies from taking payments from credit cards. I wouldn't go asking too many questions at the bookies - certainly don't tell them you are going to do matched betting. Good Luck!

Yep open a separate bank account just for this. A lot of the offers don't work if you use PayPal or another ewallet to deposit money. Also there are hundreds of bookmakers to sign up to so you will need to be prepared to do it online.

You need to use a debit card, I use starling. Some people have had problems with Monzo who don’t seem to be big fans of matched betting and have frozen accounts. Both are super quick to set up though. You’ll have a lot of transactions if you get into the swing of it, so it’s a good idea not to use your main account!

I agree the best option is to open another account just for matches betting. Currently you can still use a credit card but deposits made on a CC are treated as cash withdrawals. From April the online gambling companies will no longer be able to accept credit cards.

For the betting companies that have both shops and an online presence you might be able to use cash to deposit, but some of the best offers are from companies which do not have shops, for example BET365 and for the exchanges you will need a debit card.

Now is a good time to start because you can make a lot of money during the Cheltenham festival in March.
