Hi everyone I start a new job on March 2nd..its monthly pay. I'm currently receiving carers allowance and income support for my disabled son..when do I pur a claim in for Universal Credit? Should I do it now? ..I probably wont get paid untill 1st April and wont be entitled to housing benefit so I'm worried how I'm going to manage especially rent...should I stop tax credits etc now..I cant find the answers in the internet and cant get through to helpline ..many thanks

There is no need to switch to Uc unless you are going to be better off. If working more than 16 hours and you already have a child tax credit claim you can just add in the working tax credit element.

Thanks for taking the time to reply Babyroos, I was told because I'm going to be working full time and that it's a change of circumstances (income support stopage) that I have to go on universal credit as I will be earning just over the threshold .I will be better off financially in work too

You have been told wrong. If you are just wanting to claim working tax credit and have a child tax credit claim already. Then it is not a new claim, only a change of circumstances and this does not currently trigger universal credit.
