Damaged car

My car has been damaged whilst in a private car park, I have managed to track down the person who has caused the damage and when I informed him that it was going to cost £400 to £500 to fix he told me he could get the job done for less than £175 by someone he knows.

I really dont want to use his guy as I'm not convinced it will be a good job. Am i within my right to take it to me place of choice?

I would think whoever repairs it is your choice. He may insist on a couple of quotes for perspective.

It depends on who the someone he knows is. If it is a car firm with a body shop then ok, if it is a friend handy with a spray can then no.

If he doesn't want to use your quote I would go through your insurance. Most insurance companies policies say you need to inform them with 24hrs of the accident, not sure what happens if you leave it longer.

It's a body repair shop but not somewhere I would chose to go. I don't want to go through my insurance as I have a highish excess. After speaking to a few friends, I'm going to stand my ground, he's at fault here.

Your committing fraud by not informing your insurance even though it's a no fault claim... your excess and premiums will be a whole lot higher if you get your policy cancelled as a result of them finding out you've not declared the incident.

It's not an accident it's damage to the paintwork.

It's not an accident it's damage to the paintwork.

If it was caused by another car/car door it is technically an accident and officially should be reported (but many dont to avoid premium hikes)

If he hit it with a trolley not sure what you should do.

The problem with dealing with it outside of the insurance is when he starts, as you've found, getting difficult.

If you can prove he’s liable then you won’t have any excess to pay....

Tell him you'll go through your insurance. What do you mean by track him down ? So it's not as I've he accidentally scratched it and said sorry . People often don't deal with the insurance just get a couple of quotes but sounds like he's tried to swerve it so I'd contact insurance and blame him .
