Going from claiming only child tax credit to adding working tax credit

Hi
I am a single parent currently working part time and have 1 DC. My working hours have now increased to an average of 16 a week enabling me to claim working tax credit as well as child tax credit. It looks like I can stay in tax credits for now and can move to UC later. Does anyone know what documents I need to provide? - payslips etc
Thanks

I think you need to get proper advice. As far as I was aware you can't make new claims for working tax credits. If you were claiming WTC and CTC you could drop the WTC, but I don't think you can the other way way. But like I said, I'm no expert, so best take some advice.

It is possible to claim working tax credits if you have a current child tax credits claim. I think you would need to ring them and estimate earnings.

Why not give TC a t/c and see what they say. As op advices it was understood claiming more was under review and changing to UC

Thanks everyone. Gave up after waiting on hold for the best part of an hour yesterday so just thought I would see if anyone knew on here before trying again!

Try phoning at 11am on Sunday morning

Hi. Not sure if you have already registered online with HMRC but sometimes there is a live online chat helpline to get queries answered quickly. I have always found this useful.

You already have a ctax credit claim so you can add wtac to it without it triggering a change to UC as it's not a new claim just a change in circumstances.
If you are working though UC may be better. Try entitled to and it will show you which is more money.

I was in the same situation and just notified tax credits of my new job online, it took 5 minutes and I've never had to call them or provide any documents. They have all my PAYE info via RTI every month. I was on just CTC at first and just added WTC to my claim, same as the OP. It was done last year but after UC had been introduced in my area, so it should be the same situation for you OP. It's not counted as a new claim.

Tax credits was much better for my circumstances than UC, as I'm disabled and getting PIP so I get an extra element to my tax credits, plus I have savings over the UC threshold.
