Is this normal for a family of 4 plus a dog including breakfast lunch for 2 dinner snacks and a burns night supper for 13 including alcohol etc?
I kept all my receipts and am ashamed of the cost as we really can't afford that much
I know I'm going to be flamed as but aibu in thinking that for is just so expensive?

That seems ridiculously cheap if you fed and watered 13 people one night.

Changeembrace · 29/01/2020 20:29

Seems pretty bloody reasonable to me!

In fact I am utterly baffled it included dinner for 13 including alcohol!

Changeembrace · 29/01/2020 20:29

I would have spent that (happily) on just the dinner for 13. In fact more.

Laudaroc · 29/01/2020 21:27

it was just haggis potatoes and turnip and a few bottles of wine
I had a bottle of whisky from a gift
So perhaps 35 pounds on the actual meal as people brought a bottle

We did 130 for the 2 of us 😬

m0therofdragons · 30/01/2020 15:58

I spend £125-£150 for 5 of us (two primary age) but with alcohol and meal for 13 it would be a lot more.

CodenameVillanelle · 30/01/2020 15:59

So the week's shopping was around £120?
I don't know. I spend £70 a week for one adult and one child and a cat, I could spend less but i don't need to. I don't think £120 is outrageous for that many people, but you could definitely trim it if you want/need to.

Gingerkittykat · 30/01/2020 16:00

So £120 for food without the Burns supper.

How much does the dog cost?

Can you afford the £120 or do you want to bring it down?

AdoraBell · 31/01/2020 23:30

Seems impressive with the 13 person supper

We spend between £90 and £150 per week for a family of 4. The heavy weeks are when I need to get laundry items/toiletries etc.

Whycantibetangy · 01/02/2020 23:32

I have an ongoing battle with my dh re the grocery shop. When I go, its easily £120 for 2 adults, 2 teens, 3 cats. When he goes its £80 ish BUT we run out of food by Thursday and need to top up shop £5 /£10 here and there so end up spending around the same if not more as its the local CoOp instead if big supermarkets.

He maintains he can do a week shop for £80. He’s deluded.

I think you did bloody well to get full shop plus dinner and booze for 13 for that much

Wilmalovescake · 01/02/2020 23:35

It’s gone up loads lately.

Monty27 · 01/02/2020 23:37

Well done you OP Shock

NoSquirrels · 02/02/2020 08:28

Family of 4, with a dog, I think £120 including alcohol isn’t bad, tbh. And £35 to entertain 13 people, yes.

My dog costs about £10 a week on food, I reckon. If you spent another £10 on a bottle of wine, say, then you’re at £100 for 4 people all meals & snacks. About £3.50pp per day. Not outrageous!

ByeMF · 03/02/2020 22:26

Me, two teens, dog. Monthly food/toiletries/cleaning stuff budget is £220. I am on a very small income. Last month I had money leftover from this which went into the holiday fund.
Can you afford what you're spending? Or is it building debt/stopping you saving? It is actually really easy to cut down your food spending as long as you cook from scratch/batch cook.
