Dro and a contract phone?

Hi my dro is due to end in may... I'm wondering if anyone has ever got a contract whilst in one as it states you cannot get more then £500 credit... would this class as credit... it would only be a small contract as needed for my son

It probably would class as credit but it would be best asking the official receiver or whoever manages/supervises your DRO, although a small contract (ie 2 years at £20 pm) would be less than £500 and that would provide for a more than satisfactory phone and data allowance etc for anyone unless they have plenty of money to spend on an expensive phone service and with the DRO it sounds like you don't unfortunately.

However, when applying for a contract, they will check your credit record, so you may not be accepted, contract phone companies are quite strict about credit records when selling contracts.

And there are much cheaper ways to get him a phone without a contract - GiffGaff is excellent value for the phone service and then you can look for a second hand phone or ask if anyone has an old one they are not using and can sell you.

It does count as credit as you're liable for the whole amount but you pay it in monthly instalments.

The £500 caveat on a DRO is that you have to tell whoever you're trying to borrow from that you're subject to a DRO so they can make an informed decision based on all the information. If they want to lend to you, they can.

A SIM only contract is unlikely to be more than £500, only if you want a shiny new expensive phone. But there is the issue of what ability you would have to pay if extra charges were incurred above the monthly contract amount.

Best stick with PAYG really.
