Maternity allowance

I’m looking ahead to when I am due to finish work for maternity leave, I was a SAHM with my other children so I have no idea how it works.
I receive some tax credits as I’m a lone parent on a low wage and I have been hearing some conflicting responses from friends who say leaving work and claiming maternity allowance will trigger a change to Universal Credit. Can anyone vouch for that being true or false?
I intend to return to work once the 39 weeks are over. As this is my third baby I know it won’t change the tax credits rate. Judging by an online calculator I will be much worse off on UC so I’m looking for reassurance I will be allowed to stay on tax credits until the ‘migration’. Thank you

You should just stay on tax credits if you're already on them. You can't make a new claim for tax credits. But you do realise if this is your third child, that you won;t receive any extra tax credits? Just the standard amount you already receive for your two other children (presuming they are both under 18).

I don't think Maternity Allowance will trigger a change, as SMP wouldn't trigger a change. If you are getting MA you will be better off on TC (which ignores it) than on UC (which will reduce it £ for £). However if you want a definitive answer I would contact CA. They could also do a full better off calculation for you and check you are getting everything you are entitled to.
