I just had a call from 'Natwest' (I bank with Halifax) saying there was an issue with my account Confused and that they need to speak to me about fraud on my account. Straight up they asked me to confirm my address before they could discuss it, and they read out my parents address. I thought, me being ditzy, maybe I has signed up for an account ages ago and never used it or something, after I had confirmed the address they said £600 had gone from my account. I asked how much was in there as I had no recollection of ever using Natwest. He said that I had £1200 left in there but that was at risk and that I need to change my security info by answering some more questions. I said I would call him back, as needed to check with my parents, as was thinking they had perhaps set up the account for me. I rung my Dad and he didn't have a clue what I was talking bout and said it sounded like a scam call. I checked the number online like he suggested and found a comment on scam-caller.co.uk/ that said it was a bank fraud scam number :s I posted on there too to say I had had the same call, but clearly this scam is ongoing. I worry about vulnerable people falling for this, as I pretty much did myself, and wonder if there is anything more I can do, thinking I should ring Natwest at least, but can I ring the police about this? I did give them my updated married surname and new address.

Oh dear.
Change all your passwords.

Impressed the scammer told which bank they were supposedly calling from. We got some for a while claiming to be from 'The Bank'. Always hung up when I asked which one.

I would ring Natwest to alert them of this number that is being used. Obviously they’ll be used to their name being used for fraud purposes but I’m given to understand if they know numbers they can start to shut them down.

Certain police forces have a fraud team that would take the information. The best thing would be to ring 101 and see what your local area is doing but it might be nothing.

As you’ve given your updated name and address, you need to keep an eye on your credit score and check nothing new is being started in your name. I have clear score and it tells me my credit score changes.

Probably a good idea to tell Natwest.

oh god, really hope they dont mess up my credit score as its taken me ages to improve it and im applying for mortgages at the moment! Will call Natwest and Halifax. I will try the police, hopefully they will take it seriously

I had the same call earlier today, only they said the £600 had been authorized from my credit card.
So I went online and checked pending charges on my credit card and theres nothing. They were phishing for info. Bloody scammers.

they've found out some of your details on social media, and that allows them to sound credible. If you didn't actually give out security details you'll be fine, but change all passwords etc NOW.

no bank EVER calls about securing or transferring money. It is always a scammer. Just tell them they are filth and hang up.
