Car insurance - Windscreens

I recently cracked my car windscreen and upon contacting my insurer I was told this was not covered in my (fully comprehensive)policy. I accepted this as I can't remember discussing windscreens when I took out the policy - stupid of me not to check as it was the only thing that I ever claimed for with my previous company. At the minute I can't find all the bumph they sent out (sp)to see what it actually says about windscreens.
DP thinks this is ridiculous and that I should argue that the policy is fully comprehensive and that they should have told me it excluded windscreen cover when I was buying it or at least offered me it.
What does anyone else think?
(I'm still waiting for a quote for replacement)

Some companies offer fully comprehensive policies that exclude windscreen cover to keep the costs down. Not many though and usually not the main insurers.

Did you do over the phone or online? It should be in the exclusion section on your schedule if its not covered. Have you checked their website to ensure you have been told correctly?

They will try and argue that the paperwork says to check the details upon receipt.

However, when selling an insurance policy its impossible to state all the exclusions over the phone so unless they delibrately mislead you into thinking you had the cover then they didnt do anything wrong.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't check the policy when I got it and now i can't find the detailed bit. I am going to check up further (never thought of looking at their website!) but I know I wasn't deliberately mislead so I will probably have to take the hit.

I got a crack in my windscreen last year when a stone flew up and hit it. I phoned my insurers and they said that they would replace it and all I had to pay was the excess which with my insurers was £75. It didn't affect my no claims bonus which is what I was most worried about as I was a new driver.
I was told that most insurance doesn't cover windscreens and you usually have to pay the excess.

you only pay for the XS if it need replacing or otherwise its nil if it need repairing
