Can I open a child saver account, so I'm a trustee even though he has his own account for pocket money with card.
He used to have one but due to financial abuse from my ex. I withdrew all ds savings and hid them.. There was 2.5k.
That was 4 yrs ago and its been hidden since.
I don't like it not being in an account. I don't trust ds to have it in his current account.
It's for driving lessons, car or whatever when he's older

Can. I still open one?
His account is lloyds.. But not sure where I want to do the savings one as need to do. Dds aswell but she only. Has a tiny amount

Yes he can have a savings account as well as a current account. What age is he?

ChocolateCoins19 · 28/12/2019 23:23

He's 14 but not responsible enough to have control over it.. It would Dissappear on fifa points. Which is why I need to be trustee.

I know dd's savings account was in trust until she turned 16. Junior ISA?

ChocolateCoins19 · 28/12/2019 23:28

16 would be fine.
Didn't want an isa as some. Of the money is towards school trips from grandparents. So needs access. Plus it's a hassle to transfer his trust fund.. Which is part of the jnr isa criteria

Is halifax any good.
I would stick with lloyds as me and dh bank with them. But his dds savers comes up on his online banking as he's trustee. . I don't want that I like things kept separate

Thank you. Local to me is lloyds halifax or santander only. So will look in to them as needs to be handy ideally. There's plenty of other banks in city but I get stressed and anxious going there so I try to avoid it.

Both my girls had savers accounts in Santander with me being the signatory on the account - they also had there own bank accounts with cards in another bank. In fact I kept my eldest daughters money on that account until she had finished uni

I had a Halifax account in trust for dd. At the time it was the best interest rate available too.

ChocolateCoins19 · 28/12/2019 23:44

Thank you. That's good to know. So does it change from child saver to normal then?

It went into her name when she turned 16 but we transferred it into her HSBC current account as we’d used it to save for something specific.

Sorry to gatecrash the thread but I feel like you all know what you're talking about here so I have a few questions myself.
My child gets a pension which is paid into my account every month, however, I want to open an account for them and transfer it to that for when they're older.
Am I able to make an account for them on their behalf? Does credit scores affect this?

Would it be better to put the money in the account which was given to them when they were born and the government gave them £500. I think it was a trust fund..?
Any advice would be great.

What age is the child? Your lo could have a savings account from birth and then a current account from age 11. Child trust funds cant have withdrawals until age 18 so it depends if they want access to the money before then
