Universal Credit Emergency Loan

Hi all, I may be single in the next few days (I don't know what is going on at the moment). If so I will need to apply for UC but I know this takes 5 weeks to first payment.

Can I apply for emergency funds when I apply? And how long do these usually take?

I spoke to citizens advice last week when I thought it might be on the cards and I will call them back once he has gone so they can help with my application and everything else.

Thank you!

You can only apply once your application for UC is done and you have your first face to face meeting with your advisor. They will do it with you. It then takes about 48 hours.

I seem to remember it was a few weeks till appointment

You apply online and have to book your appointment within 7 days

My parents applied yesterday morning and had their first commitments meeting this afternoon. They got an advance for £868 paid into they're account straight away and will receive there first uc payment on the 24th jan.

I started getting UC at the beginning of the year after separating from XH. I had a few £ saved so didn't need to take the load...they were VERY keen to give it to me. It felt like it was the norm then you apply. The advisor then said if I changed my mind over the 5 week wait to go back in and the would send it straight away.

As soon as your Id interview is done you can apply for an advance which is then paid back over a period of time. The amount you are offered will be based roughly on what they expect your first UC payment to be which will be based on whether you pay rent, how many kids you have etc.
