Do they check just the person, or is it affected if someone who lived in the house before ran up huuuuuuuuuuuge debts?

(Different answers from various family members)

It can effect you, some creditors will actually see your credit report when you apply, therefore see debts that are not in your name, and then make a decision at thier own discretion, others simply press a button, never see your report and the computer will makea decision, thats when other peoples debt will effect you.

Well mine shows as excellent, DH as "good" and a low risk borrower - I can only assume that it is because I am now self employed (although DH's pay more than covers the rent etc).

Fuming
