Attempted credit card fraud

Seems like somebody has got hold of DH's details. This week a credit card (business one) arrived which he had not applied for. In the same post a letter turning him down for a loan. Has reported to both companies, logged with Action Fraud, checked Experian to see any other suspicious activity. Also registered with CIFA (something like that) so should prevent others going forward.

However another credit card came this morning, again done all the necessary and reported. He is more optimistic than me and thinks that is it, judging by the search activity on Experian.

We live in a block of small flats. The letterboxes are in a row around the corner from the communal front door. They are opened from the inside with individual keys. I say to my DH that they must want to get their hands on the credit cards (now shredded) but how would they do that? I have small hands and I tried this morning to take post out and couldn't.

My question is, do fraudsters apply for cards but don't actually need to have them to start spending? I am worried that they are going to start stealing post so am hoping they are no way near us and they were hoping to do something remotely. I feel strangely violated, and anxious. All my accounts are ok.

Top tip - Money Savings Expert has free service called Credit Club which allows you to get a monthly report on Experian so you can see which credit/loan companies etc have done a security check on you. If you have not applied for anything you can use that to check suspicious activity.

This happened to me about 15 years ago (my neighbours were applying for credit in my name but their address), the police basically said that nothing could be done as no crime had been committed (yet). I think they visited them for a “chat”, but that’s as far as it went. Hopefully things have changed since then?
