DRO or Debt Management in this situation.?

I have stupidly got into debt.. I did a balance transfer but never cancelled my old card and have used it.
Main reason is we have just moved and we didn't realise the state of disrepair the house was in and we didn't have the cash to make it livable. I did buy as much cheap or 2nd hand as I could so it wasn't wrekless.

DH works FT and is currently in the process of applying for a DRO from before we met (he'd been paying an agreed amount but it's just going no where)

I am due a baby in the new year. We will have 3 dcs living at home.

My debts are around 6k..but as I am a sahm this is a lot. Dh wage and UC won't stretch to paying a decent amount each month. Even the minimum payment is crucifying us at the moment.

Now I'm. Not fussed about my credit score in the slightest because it would stop me taking any credit out.. But I've always had 1 card with 0 on it as a fall back which my mother has. And still had that's clear and I worry that its a huge leap not to have that fall Back card for emergencies.

I just don't know what to do!

Hello, sorry to hear of your troubles.

I’m an accountant in practice and would urge you to contact StepChange and seek a Debt Relief Order

Step Change are a charity who can help you get a DRO at minimal cost thereby allowing you to manage your situation as cheaply as possible.

Do you own your home? If so a DRO is not an option. Do you have any assets worth over £1000 (£1350 for work equipment) including cars?
You also need to be aware that any major changes in your circumstances during the 12 month period could see the DRO revoked and the debts reinstated with interest and charges.
It would be best to seek advice from step change, payplan or the CA as to your options, all companies have different entry criteria for different plans so with a DMP you might need a surplus income of £100 a month for a managed plan.
