HI,

I wonder if you can help me. I was living on and off with my nan and grandad for the last 6 years, From what I understand they paid council tax and my grandad was disabled. I have not had a fixed address for the last year and have been looking for a council property. The council tax have contacted my nan to say she cannot get single person discount because I am registered there. I have contacted them to explain I have no fixed address and they have sent me a form to complete. Even though I have had no fixed address I cannot prove otherwise as I have no bills anywhere. Will I have been covered for council tax while my grandad was alive. I am just thinking of the worst case scenario as I cannot prove otherwise,

Thankyou

What do the council mean you “are registered there”? And what frequency have you been living there (on and off)?

They mean I’m on the electoral roll there and all my post goes there which it does. I’ve had a bad relationship with the baby’s dad and over 6 years I’ve been backwards and forwards between them both and other members of family x

It sounds like you live there to me.

You have to pay council tax, either at your grandpatents or your partners house

If you’re on the electoral role, then yes, you live there.

You are liable for council tax somewhere. You can’t get away with it by staying between 2 or 3 places.
