Universal credit help?!?

I have recently just gone on maternity leave, however the pay is ridiculous and it's hard to be able to afford everything. We currently private rent and are due to move out around June next year. If I was to apply to get universal credit, can this affect us private renting again? Do landlords think negatively of private renting or not?

Thanks

It would depend whether your landlord minds renting to people on benefits. Sometimes a landlords insurance is affected and stipulates that they cannot rent to people on benefits so you would need to check with them maybe?

Yes, declaring you are on UC will not make you an attractive prospective tenant to a landlord. Most landlords avoid benefit claimants (even working ones!) like the plague.

"If I was to apply for UC......" - If you can afford not to apply for it would you actually be entitled to anything? Benefits are usually for people who have nothing or are living in poverty. It seems strange that you can afford to decide whether to apply or not?!

Pilot - that is not correct at all. People earning 40k or more can get universal credit if they have high childcare costs and high rent. UC is for working people as well as people who have no earnings.
