Isn't a quote supposed to be binding?

I got a £207 quote from Butlins for a music weekend on Saturday which they emailed to me. I've gone to book it and it's gone up to £254!

What was the point of emailing me a quote if they're not going to stick to it? Does anyone know the legal standing of a quote, even though it does have a note on saying that it does not guarantee the price shown?

I thought a quotation was a fixed price too, so will be watching this with interest.

Knittedfairies · 14/11/2019 09:59

... but the note might change that!

Bluntness100 · 14/11/2019 10:00

Normally the price is held for a period of time, like 24 hours. It should be there in the small print. But no, a quote is not often binding for ever more.

Was the quote valid for a certain number of days? If not, I’d go back to them and point out to them what the original quote said - it should be binding as long as it’s within the time frame and nothings changed.

It’s a quote not a fixed price

Comefromaway · 14/11/2019 10:02

Quotes will often have a limited validity.

This answers your own question.. even though it does have a note on saying that it does not guarantee the price shown?

They’ve covered themselves.

eenymeenyminyme · 14/11/2019 10:16

It said it was valid for 14 days, so another 9 days.

What's the point in having a quote valid for a certain period if it doesn't mean anything? I'm going to have to ask them!

Definitely ask if they've said it's valid.

SoupDragon · 14/11/2019 10:21

Did you go to book through a link in the email or just by entering the details again?

eenymeenyminyme · 14/11/2019 10:27

I used the link in the email to access my account where it said I had one quote, which I clicked on.

I've emailed them, I'll let you know what they say!

If it said valid for fourteen days then it's a mistake they should rectify.

eenymeenyminyme · 14/11/2019 11:51

I called them and they said the note meant they could change the price but they'd see what they could do... and they ended up honouring the originally quoted price as long as I booked today Smile

And I didn't even have to kick off! Pays to be nice sometimes...

That's good :)
