What to do

So I personally owe £43k I own a joint house, but H pays everything. I have enduring mental health issues and am likely to lose my job in the next month. What the actual fuck do I do

Have you talked to your husband? That's the first step. If you both own the home then there's a good chance it is at risk; it is not fair for your husband to not be aware of the risk you are both facing together.

Step 2, once you've told your husband is to seek help from a debt charity.

Good luck Thanks

Speak to a debt agency like stepchange. I assume the 43k is separate to mortgage?

Grumpbum123 · 08/11/2019 19:09

It is through years of spending too much to cover mental health issues

As suggested, approach one of the agencies- Step Change, Christians Against Poverty, CAB.

You can either tell your DH now, or get help from one of the agencies and have a plan before you talk to DH. It might to him not feel completely overwhelmed when you tell him.

Thank you

Hi OP
You say you have £43k debt and things are a bit shit. How much do you earn, and why do you think you're going to lose your job soon?

LIZS · 09/11/2019 18:39

Surely he has a share of responsibility for the overspending, living beyond your means. You can't solve this in your own.

Grumpbum123 · 09/11/2019 18:40

I’m off with MH issues and about to be managed out so income will go from £1265 to £265

OP posts:
LIZS · 09/11/2019 18:41

Can you start to look for another job? What mh support are you getting?

mrssillysausage · 09/11/2019 18:43

Hi
What have you been doing to get some support for your MH issues?
How long have you been employed?
Sorry just trying to establish some facts that might be helpful...

Grumpbum123 · 09/11/2019 18:44

I’ve found a minimal wage job for 15 hours a week. I currently have MH nurses visiting daily, therapy x3 a week and GP alternating with Psych weekly

Hi
Your posing because you want help and advice, and that's a brilliant first step (not to be patronising.)
Looking at your current MH support with the added pressure of your situation at work, would you be better off on sick leave for a bit until you feel a bit more in control? Or have work already started the capability process?
Your condition is covered under the equality act so your employer is duty bound to go through a very structured process which will take a long time, including looking for alternatives to your current role.
I think either way you should talk to your husband and get some advice on your debt, the minimum payments along must take a lot of your take home pay?

mrssillysausage · 09/11/2019 19:01

Posting not posing

Grumpbum123 · 09/11/2019 19:05

Thank you it does take a lot of my wage but so far I’ve covered my arse. If I lose my job I won’t be able to

OP posts:
LIZS · 09/11/2019 19:13

Not sure how your wage is enabling you to make any real impact on your debt tbh, are you making minimum payments only? Where will the £265 come from? Could you claim esa?

Grumpbum123 · 09/11/2019 19:17

Minimum payments only £265 my H gives me

Your CPN should be able to refer you to someone who can help you manage your debt. Have you spoken to them about it?

Does your CPN/ psychiatrist feel you are fit for any work at the moment? It might be that you're eligible for supported permitted work, which would allow you to claim ESA and do some work too. Also look at whether you can claim PIP.
