Will I get a mortgage?

This could be long so please bear with me, I have no clue!
I’m looking to take over a mortgage from my landlord in 3 years time. There will be 40,000 deposit and I’d be looking to borrow around 160,000.
I currently have £21,000 in debt due to my partner losing his job, reaching rock bottom and being suicidal and claiming he was working, he wasn’t! I then had a lot of bills to pay and took on everything on a very part time wage. We moved and I began working full time and I am putting everything into clearing this debt which is stressful as I’ve kept it secret amongst family and friends.
My credit rating is good, I’ve never missed a payment and I should have only 2000 left by the time it comes to take on the mortgage.
My question is, will I get a mortgage or will they look at the previous 6 years when I would have been in huge debt and ask me about this or will they only concentrate on my finances at the time of application? Thanks for reading.

They usually only require 3 months worth of bank statements and wage slips

As long as you've kept up with the repayments and never missed one then you'll be fine to get a mortgage - it's the balance of the debt against your salary though which may reduce the amount you're entitled to at the time. DH and I have a joint income of just under £60k, debts totalling £23k and just been approved on a mortgage for £183k.

They take a snap shot of your finances at date of application.

6 year rule only relevant for missed payments

3 Months bank statements usually only required, try to avoid gambling sites, pay day loan sites etc. These are the things they look out for.

Credit Card debt is far more of an impact on your mortgage amount than loans. So I would tackle any Credit Card debt first
