Hi OP, we've moved this to a different board for you - hope you get some answers soon.

It wouldn't be for us, it can take 1 issue, washing machine breaking or 4 tyres need replacing and that is 2 months of your spare money. If you have an emergency fund of at least 1 months income then it wouldn't be too bad to cover these incidental.

Thanks @GloriaMumsnet

No, I’d say that’s not very much at all & would make saving very difficult. If you already have an emergency fund of a few k, then it’s not so bad.

BarbaraofSeville · 05/11/2019 04:57

It does sound very tight but it is good that you recognise that these costs will arise sooner or later.

I'd suggest having a look at the moneysavingexpert money makeover and do everything that is relevant to you.

If you can cut some of your regular bills then your spare £200 might increase a bit and make things a little easier.

I am quite money savvy and save where we can, splurge in other ways . We have £2750 left after food and bills each month. Both mid 20s. I couldn’t personally get by on £200 . Could one of you upskill to hopefully earn more in the future?

maternityleavequestion · 07/11/2019 01:17

Very helpful Cordial11 Hmm

No £200 left a month is not ideal, but unless you can reduce your outgoings further (especially big ones like rent/mortgage/loan repayments) or earn more money without it costing you too much more in commuting/child care etc than you will have to try and live without your means and be very careful with spending.
