DS cut mouth on glass on plane - what would you do?

Flying in business, juice given to DS´s in glasses. DS2, 20 months, bit and broke glass in his mouth. Had minor cuts to lip and inside his cheek, no idea what happened the the fragment of glass (about the size of your little fingernail). He definitely had it in his mouth, but can´t imagine that he swallowed it.

This was 10 days ago, and he is fine, but would you make a big fuss or just put it down to one of those things that happens with kids and leave it at that? Have visions of free flights for life for DS..... However, on balance I think that it was just an unfortunate accident and as DS is ok, there is no point in pursuing it.

Opinions please!

Unfortunate accident.

accident.

Unfortunate accident, but my responsibility to say 'could I have that in a plastic glass please?' rather than theirs to get it right IYKWIM.... so I'd forget it and just be happy no harm was done

We fly business regularly, have always asked for a non glass drinking vessel for DS who is now 35 mths. I'm not expecting a beaker, a teacup is fine.

It is my responsiblitiy as a parent to ensure my DS' safety, not the airlines...

sounds like an accident to me. Might be worth mentioning to the airline in terms of having plasic beakers available for small children.

I am appalled no-one has thought to contact social services - clearly the OP is a negligent mother, just out for 'compo' wherever she can get it. Probably got the flights with her winnings from a no-win no-fee claim against the council for tripping over a cracked paving stone.

Her poor DS needs to be taken away and given to foster parents who will look after him and not just treat him as a meal ticket.

At builders.

What a greedy grasping world we live in.

It's a sort of Friday feeling today on mumsnet

I don't see how it could have been their fault if you're present and responsible for your child. They would have had plenty of plastic cups on the plane if you'd asked for one.

I asked for a jar to be heated once and it came in a bowl boiling hot from the microwave. I asked them to do it again and put the jar in some warm water. Would it have been their fault if my ds had burned his mouth?

MrsCarrot · 17/08/2007 09:46

My gin and tonic has always come in a plastic cup in economy

Whizzz · 17/08/2007 09:47

agree - you are still responsible for your child on a plane. IMO you haven't a hope of gaining anything by trying to claim

belgo · 17/08/2007 09:48

we didn't even get drinks or food on our last flight. They cost a fortune if we wanted them.
