Current account

Does anyone have more than one current account?

I am thinking it might be better for me to have two rather than one. Ie one for household bills and one for everything else?

Is this a normal thing? Or would it be odd?

I have 2. Main TSB account for mortgage, nursery fees, bills etc and then Monzo for savings and spending money. Works really well!

Ginger153 · 19/10/2019 11:18

@MustardScreams me too. Salary goes into main account where all direct debits come from. I have a weekly standing order to Monzo for spending money - food, petrol, fun stuff etc. Anything left in my main account builds up for bigger annual bills like MOT, holiday etc.

Works really well for me as don't need to think about making sure there's enough to cover bills as they're taken care of. What's in my Monzo I can spend and not worry.

Ok ty I havent heard of monzo. Will have to search it up.

Love monzo

I have 2 current accounts, both with the same bank unlike pp but I use one for all my bills and direct debits & keep the other for every day spending. Helps me budget & keep track of what I have free for the rest of the month. Then I have my savings account. Seem to like collecting bank accounts 😂
I like that they are all with the same place though so I can see them all the same app. I can even see my pension on my online banking app.

I have a joint current account ( plus a savings) account at one bank and a single one in another bank ( my original pre DH one) together with other savings. DH has another current in yet another bank. Happened organically but has the advantage of spreading the risk...

I have several for various reasons but we have a Santander 123 account for cashback on bills and 1.5% interest on savings and then all spending is done know a cashback credit card that is paid off in full each month by direct debit.

But yes, it's a good idea to separate bills from other spending otherwise you're having to think how much money is needed to pay the rest of the months direct debits and how much is available for spending.

septemberismyfavouritemonth · 19/10/2019 22:13

I also have 1 which is only for direct debits so my mortgage and all my bills, and the other for spending. Means on pay day I can separate my money and never have to worry about what is going to come out.
It works really well for me

We have 3, although we use YNAB so shouldn't need more than 1. We have main account for bills and day to day spending. Another account for DLA (2 children with SN) and a third account that we can use to siphon money off to if we're budgeting for something big.

As I say, we can do all of the above in YNAB, but having more than one account came in very handy when DH's card was cloned and the thieves spent all our money. We were able to use our other accounts while our bank froze our account and worked with us to establish which payments we had made and which were that of the thieves (all the luxury items were there's!).

I have 4! Bills, spending, monzo for contactless as Natwest won't give me a contactless card for some reason and one I use to send and receive payments.

littlelandlord7 · 27/10/2019 07:21

I have 4:

1 - salary goes in

2 - joint with my husband - household bills paid from here

3 - joint with Husband rental income & outgoings

4 - doing nothing, opened it when I took a mortgage out with them. Will probably close it soon!

I do think it helps have at least two of you want to split out bills and save etc. It simplifies our tax returns having allocated accounts for certain things.
