CTC is a benefit, and replaced by UC. You will have to apply for UC to replace the money you've lost from CTC.

MrsMaiselsMuff · 17/10/2019 09:53

You've listed four benefits there! Why has CTC stopped?

Mitebiteatnite · 17/10/2019 09:55

MrsMaisels I'm always astounded when people say 'I don't claim any benefits' then go on to list tax credits and carers allowance etc!

ilovesprouts · 17/10/2019 09:57

My tax credit stopped i sent my form in late and when i rang them they said ive to apply for UC sorry i ment to put thats all the benefits i get i dont get any income support

Why has it stopped? This is vital information if you want anyone to be able to help.

But I agree with the pp's, you said you don't claim benefits then listed the benefits you claim!

puppyconfetti · 17/10/2019 10:00

Cross posted. It was stopped because you did t send back the renewal, not because of any income or savings. How much do you have? There is a scale and your award is affected accordingly.

puppyconfetti · 17/10/2019 10:01

*didnt

MrsMaiselsMuff · 17/10/2019 10:04

Do you have over £16K in savings/ assets? That will mean you are not entitled to UC. If you have between £6K and £16K you'll receive something but with a deduction for notional income.

ilovesprouts · 17/10/2019 10:10

The DLA is not mine its my sons and it goes into his own bank account i only get cares allowance and family allowance.yes ive over 16k in my bank but i was confused because ive lost my CTC and ppl been telling me different stories etc .

puppyconfetti · 17/10/2019 10:16

There is nothing to be confused about, you lost it because you didn't renew it. A simple google would tell you that savings situation regarding UC. You have over £16k so you can't claim.

MrsMaiselsMuff · 17/10/2019 10:22

That's a very expensive mistake to make. Are there any mitigating circumstances as to why you didn't return the form?

ilovesprouts · 17/10/2019 10:24

I send my CTC form late but they say they dint receive it ? Anyhow thanks for all the helpful comments Hmm

OP posts:
puppyconfetti · 17/10/2019 10:26

Hmm really?

MrsMaiselsMuff · 17/10/2019 10:26

How late? Did you get proof of posting?

funnytimes · 17/10/2019 10:27

Apply for Universal Credit, they will let you know if you are entitled to anything. They are taking over tax credits so anyone whose claim is stopped for any reason has to re-apply for their tax credits via universal credits. The same happened to me. Call them they will explain.

puppyconfetti · 17/10/2019 10:29

Oh and the bit about them saying they didn't receive it had been added on. You just said you sent it late in your earlier post.

Nobody can help, the damage is done, you will have to apply for UC.

MrsMaiselsMuff · 17/10/2019 10:56

@funnytimes They are not eligible for UC due to having capital above the limit.

Babyroobs · 17/10/2019 11:42

You cannot claim UC with savings over 16k. You may need to speak to CAB to see what your options are.

rebail · 17/10/2019 20:37

Given that you can't claim UC, I would seek advice about whether you can appeal the tax credit decision on the basis that you did in fact send the information as CTC with a disabled child element is a lot of money just to lose.

Booboosweet · 18/10/2019 15:41

Most people can only dream of having that much in savings

Babyroobs · 20/10/2019 14:46

Booboo - That's true, however it's a massive difference between tax credits and UC that there is a capital limit for claiming UC which is why this is especially disastrous for op if she cannot appeal a case for getting back onto tax credits. You can have as much savings as you like on tax credits as long as you declare interest over £300 a year . Personally I find it bizarre that someone on tax credits could have 100k in savings and still potentially be able to claim hundreds a month in benefits.
