Hi so I'm I process of starting to get a dro from stepchange, so iv got the app form and have filled it out ready to send off, iv been reading about dros online and have a question basically my finances changed a few months ago, so what I was doing was all my wages except my rent I was putting the on the cresit cards just to meet the monthly payments but as soon as they cleared I was spending that money on my everyday living I thaught it maybe would have saved my creditscore. I have seen a few different people saying different things could someone help me out and let me know would this affect me getting a dro . As I'm really out of options

Hi. I also did a DRO last November with StepChange.

As long as you haven't obviously favoured one creditor over another, it shouldn't impact it too much. I was still using my credit lines a matter of days before sending all of my paperwork to StepChange. They will probably want to know why you didn't stop when you knew you were going to struggle, but they understand the vicious cycle of debt, so don't worry.

Once they receive everything they will go over it all with you on the phone. They won't ask you to pay the fee or submit your application to the OR unless they are fairly certain it will be approved.

Well done taking this step - I'm 11 months in now and am feeling so much better about things.

Hi thank you for your reply ") that's sounds good and I don't know if i have favoured 1 over the other I have 4 credit cards and was making regular payment on all 4 for a year but the last 3 months I have only been paying 3 of them because of the high I terest rate plus change in circumstances plus the one I wasn't paying was meant to have another 6 months interest free but I didn't realise that if I didn't make my monthly payment then the interest free goes away "( so basic ally I have been able to just about pay the minium payments most times on the other 3 credit cards because it was literally to cover minium payment plus so I could spend the money once it cleared.
I thaught i would be able to leave the 4th credit card for 2-3 months because of the interest but that was not the case and I couldnt afford the minium payments on that card as I would have been left with nothing.

Do you think this would be a problem? Well it's worth a try to submit it anyway so ill post todays

Hi @unitedg201 I'm actually a DRO intermediary so can help. This won't be a problem at all. What they're really looking for in terms of preferential treatment is making payments to individuals - i.e. family that you owe money to over other creditors. I wouldn't even disclose that as a preference regarding your credit cards if I were submitting your DRO application. You'll be fine.

Good luck (not that you'll need it!). Like Bourbon said, they'll only start the process once they've checked you're eligible. It's honestly a really easy process after that.

unitedg201 · 16/10/2019 14:30

@YorkshirePud1 such a relief to hear that and even more so from a DRO intermediary ") once I found out about a dro and how many people it has helped restart there life it's absolutely amazed me and even the charity's who help the process it's such a good thing that there is always someone there willing to lend a helping hand. Thumbs up I'll keep updating ")

They're amazing and really do help so many people start over. I'm sure a lot of my clients believe they're too good to be true when I first tell them about it as an option.
