Hi I'm looking for a recommendations for an IFA to consult about pension planning and other investments, ideally based in London or North Kent. Many thanks in advance.

Hi there

Have you tried “findawealthmanager” website? You fill in a short questionnaire and they suggest several companies.

Critical thing to check is that anyone you engage with is FCA registered.

I work for a national wealth manager with a head office in London and would obviously recommend them but the “findawealthmanager” website is a good way to get a few objective ideas that are tailored to the type of advice you need and the size of your assets.

I would say that anyone good should provide an initial chat / meeting free of charge at no obligation so it would be best to try a few and see who you build a rapport with.

The most crucial part of the relationship is trust so make sure you find someone who you feel you can talk to and who really listens. They should ask lots of questions to find out about you, your wider circumstances and what you are trying to achieve in order to inform any suggestions or advice they give.

Any recommendations would have to be put to you in writing eventually for consideration and you should look closely at the costs : what are they charging for advice? For investment ? The underlying fund charges? Is there VAT on their fees?

Some other questions you might like to ask: Do they sell their own products (funds) or look across the whole market? What has their past performance been? How do they assess risk? Do they provide a full financial plan? How do they make investment decisions and what would your portfolio look like?

Good luck and do message if you need any further help!
