She wishes to change deeds into my name

I got my own house, and do get benefits, so would prob lose these?

Why does she want to put the deeds into your name? If it is to save on care home fees etc in the future that almost certainly won't work.

It’s called deprivation of assets and the council can and will still come after the house if your mum needs care .

MiniMum97 · 20/09/2019 22:02

Yes it would be seen as an asset you hold for benefits purposes as it's not the house you love in. As others have said if she's doing it to avoid care home fees she may be seen to have deprived herself of assets.

More info required but in general this sounds like a bad idea for you both.

Peony99 · 20/09/2019 22:04

If she's doing it to avoid care home fees it won't work as others have said.

If she's doing it to avoid inheritance tax it's extremely complicated and then probably won't work.

It seems to be something that lots of people think is a clever idea, but rarely is.

If she owns her own property, it would be better to downsize & release some money
