Divorce settlement - charge on property

Has anyone recently got divorced and had a charge placed on their property by their ex that must be paid back at sometime in the future?

This looks like happening to me, but I had not met anyone else who has this.

I had it the other way round, I left, ex said I was having nothing of the house, so I (well ok my solicitor) put a charge on the house.
The word charge just means a notice that someone else has an interest in the property, not a charge as in £.
If the house is in joint names then you should not need a charge as you can't sell without the other person agreeing anyway.
I was stupid and got conned into putting the proceeds from my previous house into the renovations on one that was only in his name, so when I left my name wasn't on the deeds so I had to have a charge as my way of registering my legal rights to the property.
It means that if he tried to sell, when the searches were being done it would show that someone else had an interest in the property and it couldn't be sold without me knowing about it or him paying my share on the sale.
It was a good leverage while i fought for my share, i think he thought I'd just forget about it and he'd be able to sell it and grab all the equity! (Yes well he was a bit stupid, but then he is an ex).
In the end he bought me out when he realised what a charge was and that it would not go away.
Does this make sense, it was a long time ago, and its late at night...
