Best comparison sites for gas and electric

We are currently with npower and have fairly high consumption partly due to looking after a disabled child.
The bills are really high and I've had to borrow money from a relative to pay off some of the arrears we've accumulated.
Can anyone recommend a good alternative to npower or a site I can find the best deal for us?
Thank you

I have just discovered this company:

lookaftermybills.com/?marketing_source=google_ad&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIyLTPmsW15AIVGeDtCh2KGAjREAAYASAAEgLT4fD_BwE

They do all the work, and have good trust pilot reviews.
I am going to use them when I am next out of contract.

Ive just moved from npower to so energy with money saving expert cheap energy club (price comparison)

I’m getting their best rate and £25 switch bonus

I was coming off my tariff with npower and their only decent rates required me to get a smart meter which was the final straw for me

I'm with Octopus - they have worked out to be really cheap and have had no trouble whatsoever with them, in fact someone from MN recommended them and they receive £50 off their energy bill and so did I! If you decide on Octopus message me and I can give you a code so we can get the £50 reduction.

I use that martins money tips website. I get his emails every week, they have links but I can’t remember the name, I’ve deleted them, just google martins money tips.
I think he’s really helpful. (Well it’s a company obv, I don’t mean him personally).
Always look back at how many units you’ve used over the past year and use that in your comparison.
Also make sure you check the comparison sites price per unit of the company you like with what that said company says on their OWN website.
I’ve seen comparison sites tell me the wrong rate per unit for the same name of tariff on the company’s own site. Or a dearer rate per unit but offer me a smaller direct debit per month. Obv a load of bollocks. That’s how people get sucked into their web.

Submit monthly readings so you can keep an eye on things.
If you don’t have gas central heating it may be cheaper to get that than electric. You can get it installed free if anyone’s on benefits in the household, so if you have a disabled child surely that should mean you could qualify.

Thank you for all the helpful replies, Currently looking at bulb and Octopus but a little worried they would be difficult to contact if needed as I think a lot of their customer contact is via email but I could be wrong.

I would like to avoid a smart meter if possible as I know it can make it difficult to switch easily at a later date.

Going to try doing the money saving expert comparison later on and see what comes up.

I had a smart meter with Sainsbury energy (before Octopus) and I have had no trouble switching over.

Also with regards of contacting Octopus, when my account had built up lots of money as Sainsburys were so expensive, I managed to get hold of them quickly and they reimbursed me quickly.

Bigcleanswitch.org is a website I used and found a cheaper tariff than octopus. I don’t get the warm home discount but you may be entitled to that. Looked at the link offering £50 off but this one was cheaper for me. It all depends where you live as well.
