Any Universal credit experts? Is this an overpayment?

Changed job and have a universal credit claim running. I would be entitled to a small amount, and importantly help with some childcare costs. However my employment pay date will be just after my claim period ends so I will look like I haven't earned anything in my first month. This means I will likely get the full UC amount as if I had no income at the same time as recieving a full month's pay. Is this an overpayment or simply how the system works re claim period/dates?

It wont be an overpayment as Uc is calculated on what pay is reported in your assessment period. It isn't great your payday falling close to your assessment period dates though because if for example you got paid early for Christmas or bank holiday you could potentially have 2 pay days fall in the same assessment period potentially wiping out any UC. there is nothing you can do about it though as assessment period dates aren't really changeable.

Yes the period dates aren't great. I need to check what they do at Christmas. Hopefully as I'm mainly relying on the childcare refund it shouldn't matter so much.

Thank you for confirming. I've moved from a payment date one day before my UC period end to a payment date just after, hence generating the high UC payment.
